hplip scanner support for HP LaserJet 3052 (Q6502A)

Asked by Halim Issa

We are considering replacing our current multi-purpose printer/scanner/copyers from Brother with HP globally due to Brother's lack of opensource drivers, and HP's reputation for full openness.

However, the documentation surrounding the network scanning support from hplip is difficult to read. Can you please confirm whether or not a fully functional, fully open source solution through hplip will provide the same high-quality scans under hplip/Linux as it would under WIndows for the HP LaserJet 3052 ? Does it require any binary packages, or any other information only distributed and functional as RedHat RPMs or similar, or can we compile and install everything from source on our custom Slackware-based distribution without having to "RedHat'ify" the entire solution?

Thank you in advance for patient support, and thanks for excellent printer drivers. We hope and pray the scanner part lives up to the high standards you set on the printer side!

The HP LaserJet 3052 is supported by hplip.

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_3052.html

This printer does not require any plugins are binary software to function.

Scan over network is supported. There are several features HPLIP does not support for scanning including film and slide scanning. (I don't think this printer supports those anyway.) The scan resolution is as much as the device will support however HPLIP does not support software enhanced scanning which windows does support.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP!

Aaron
