cannot install hplip-2.8.5 under suse 10.0. falls in infinite loop looking for crypto.h

Asked by Yuri Golubkov

Hi,
I failed to install HPLIP-2.8.5 and HPLIP-1.74a for HP Deskjet 2180 oia.
I have SUSE 10.0 with all on-line updates and HPLIP-0.9.4.4 installed
in the distributive.

1) HPLIP-2.8.5 (and others 2....) falls into infinite loop, searching the file /usr/include/crypto.h
(Strange, I had file crypt.h and made link to crypto.h)

2) I tried to install HPLIP-1.7.4.a (the oldest library with my printer)

It fails as cannot remove HPOJ.
Script use command "yast --remove hpoj", but my YaST2 does not have option "--remove".
It has only "--install", "--list" and "--help".

I tried to stop HPOJ by: 'su -c "ptal-init stop"'. Command works, but installer again fails.

Can you manually install hplip? Follow the directions here:
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/manual/distros/novell.html

and be sure to complete the post installation steps for suse 10.

Hope this helps.
