The LaserJet 5n should work with the Laserjet 5 ppd. You can get the ppd file here:

http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_5

If you want to use hplip it may be a challenge to install on SLED 9. We haven't tested it in awhile.

You can look here for some hints:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/manual/distros/novell.html

You'll probably need to do a cups 1.1 install so the configure would look like:

./configure --enable-cups11-build --enable-network-build --enable-pp-build --disable-fax-build --disable-dbus-build --enable-gui-build --disable-scan-build --enable-doc-build --enable-foomatic-ppd-install --disable-foomatic-drv-install --with-hpppddir=/usr/share/cups/model/HP --disable-hpijs-only-build --prefix=/usr

And you'll probably need to complete the steps at step 7 on the page.

Also make sure that the ppdev module is loaded for parallel support.

Hope this helps!
