Failed automatic installation of hplip-2.8.5 at up-to-date-Suse 10.3

Asked by Hosbach

I tried to install hplip-2.8.5 at Suse Linux 10.3 (after full-scale online-update) to get the HP LaserJet 1005 support. Installation failed because of missing the required gcc and optional reportlab, libnetsnmp-devel and ppdev. Gcc, reportlab, libnetsnmp are installed with the latest version according to YAST. The error-message does not mention version-numbers. I have gcc4.2 running. I was not able to find the Parallel port support kernel module in YAST or at diverse rpm-providers. But I am running a parallel port printer already. Any help is welcomed! Thanks in advance! - Dr. Ingolf Hosbach, Bochum, Germany

Are you using the automatic installer or manually installing hplip? The installer will download the required packages..if you are getting an error in the installer please post the errors you are getting.

The hplip installer requires gcc and g++ most of the times they are installed together but sometimes not.

You can get information about the installer here:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html

Hope this helps.
