HPLIP 2.8.5 download packages are not working

Asked by babcock

I have Fedora Core 8 x86_64, HP DeskJet D2545... From the menu: "System -> Administration -> Printing", the printer is recognized as "HP Deskjet D2500 series". At present, my system has HPLIP 2.8.2-1.fc8.x86_64 installed. I understand that I require 2.8.5 installed to support this printer. I have downloaded both the auto run and the manual install files for 2.8.5 and cannot get either file to work. I have admin permissions and I have followed the installation directions as a regular user for the associated installation methods.

For the auto run method, I tried:
[matt@localhost printer]$ sh hplip-2.8.5.run
hplip-2.8.5.run: line 1: !DOCTYPE: No such file or directory
hplip-2.8.5.run: line 2: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
hplip-2.8.5.run: line 2: ` "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">'
[matt@localhost printer]$

For the manual install, I started with:
su -c "yum -y -d 10 -e 1 install cups cupsddk cupsddk-drivers cupsddk-devel cups-devel dbus-devel gcc-c++ ghostscript openssl-devel libjpeg-devel net-snmp-devel glibc-headers libtool libusb-devel make python-imaging PyQt python-ctypes dbus-python python-devel python python python-reportlab sane-backends sane-backends-devel sane-frontends xsane"

That performed successfully with no errors. I then did:

[matt@localhost printer]$ tar xvfz hplip-2.8.5.tar.gz
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
[matt@localhost printer]$

What should I do now?

Thanks!

I downloaded from another site and the auto run worked... I don't understand why your download files did not work for me.
