Xandros 3.0.2 OC does not seem to use hplip drivers provided for the HP Officejet Pro L7600

Asked by papabyrd

Greetings. In Xandros 3.0.2 OC, I'm trying to install the HP Officejet Pro L7650. I downloaded hplip-2.8.4 and ran the automatic installer. I found and installed the missing dependencies in the Xandros networks. I'm using the all-in-one as a network printer and connecting through the switch. I entered the IP, name, etc. when "adding" the printer. I've selected the officejet pro L7600 from the ppd file when prompted in "add" a printer and, I believe, the OS sees the printer. The print window says "busy, accepting jobs" but the printer won't print. It seems as if the OS can't use the drivers. I went back to Source Forge some days later and found an updated hplip-2.8.5. I ran the automatic installer but could not find the missing dependencies. Most notably libnetsnmp, the networking library. It seems as though I should use hplip-2.8.4 and I'm wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong. Thank you for your time.

So....................moving along then. After removing the existing HP drivers and placing the new deb files on the source list, I managed to initiate the installation of the hplip-2.8.5 files via the tarball as per the instructions provided but with about the same errors as before. The problem spots are the libnetsnmp and python-dbus dependencies. The istallers for the dependencies can now be found on the my Xandros Networks apps but, along with updates for the new deb files, executing the python-dbus install brings up an error/conflict with the systems "e2fsprogs" files. The OS is stable right now but promises to crash if I allow the updates to disable the e2fsprogs. Some libsnmp files did install and/or update on startup. There are 10 more libsnmp files available.

Here is a log of the latest hp-check

warning: python-dbus not installed.

A reminder. This is a network printer available through the switch. I am not offered the connection menu I supose because
the network management files are not installed. I'm tempted to see what happens if I let the new files update and/or install.
I'm going to partition this drive in the near future and have a look at another linux distro.
Your thoughts?
Thank you.

I've only been able to install hplip using the debian repos with xandros. If you want to keep it clean xandros system I'm not sure how to install hplip on it and I don't have access to xandros currently to work though it.

Is it possible to use the debian repos to install the dependencies?

Thanks for your help, Aaron. I can view and install the dependencies individually, but this distro throws an error. I may get a copy of Xandros 4 in a few days. When I get the new OS, I'm going to try to install the hplip dependencies individually on the OC edition. Actually, and against the advice of Xandros Forum users, I've installed the missing snmp files without harm to the system. The critical Python-dbus is holding things up. I'll let you know how things turn out.
