HP Photosmart essential & Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)

Asked by Hilpe

Hi,
Any idea where to get HP Photosmart Essential for scanning. I have HP Printer F4100 series and could do scanning, but I'm missing HP Photosmart Essential on Ubuntu. HP provides this s/w for Windows and Mac OS but nothing for any Linux flavors. Is there anything available for Ubuntu or any other Linux system? If no, would there be any replacement (open source or other free s/w) available?

Thx in advance.

For scanning on ubuntu you can use hplip and xsane.

You can get hplip from http://hplip.sf.net

and xsane usually comes pre-installed with Ubuntu.

Hope this helps.
