Cannot print to HP laserjet 4000 on printserver from Hardy

I 've got three computers connected via a Belkin Router to a Sitecom LN 307 v2 printserver, thats connected to my HP Laserjet 4000. One Win XP box easily prints to the laserjet. The old computer is running Ubuntu 7.10 and can easily print to the laserjet too. The third computer can't print when booted into ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04, though can print when booted into Vista of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

I've installed hplip 2.8.5. but the software simply doesn't see the printer.
In the webinterface of CUPS I've installed the printer the same way as in 7.10, but in 8.04 the printer cannot print. Ubuntu lets em know that's not possible to connect to the printer. These installed printer is not seen from the hplip interface

So in short, I cant print from Hardy 8.04, though I can when running Gutsy 7.10. Even if I configure the printer exactly the same way in Hardy.

Does the new firewall in Hardy cause a problem?

Does anyone have a suggestion what to try?

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

Also run

hp-makeuri ip.address.of.printer

and post the output.

Hi Aaron,

I runned the two commands you requested.

The hp-check command isn't installed on the Gutsy 7.10 partition from which I can print to this printer. So I cant compare the results between them.
(And I don't like the idea to install anything on the gutsy machine that could ruin the printer installation)

I can ping the printserver from Hardy 8.04 so there is a connection.

Please run:

snmpwalk -Os -c public -v 1 ip.address.of.printer 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.1.1.7.0

and post the output. Where ip.address.of.printer is the printer ip, etc.

The output should be something along the lines of what's here:

It seems there is problem with snmp getting the correct information from the printer.

This is consistent with third party (non jetdirect (HP)) devices. Apparently your Sitecom LN 307 v2 printserver device isn't allowing the correct communication with the printer to work with HPLIP.
