j3680 will scan perfect will not print

Asked by davinci

I installed latest version of hplip and ran the hplip-2.8.5.run

when I get to the ppd selection I dont see the 3680 or any 3000 series printers. I went to chose another ppd but the folder under HP doesnt show anything close to the printer. And the site says its supported. I get:
hp-officejet_300-hpjjs
hp-officejet_4300 series-hpjjs
hp-officejet_5600 series-hpjjs
hp-officejet_6300 series-hpjjs
hp-officejet_7300 series-hpjjs
hp-officejet_j5700-hpjjs
hp-officejet_series_600-hpjjs

I can use xsane to scan and it works........I can check ink tanks all that jazz but can not print

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

You can download the ppd file from:
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-OfficeJet_J3600
The download link is at bottom of the page:
http://openprinting.org/ppd-o-matic.cgi?driver=hpijs&printer=HP-OfficeJet_J3600&show=0

With this file and hplip installed from script, the multifucntion HP J3680 works fine as printer, and scans without this file.
You can compress it with gzip to obtain the same extension (.gz), and a littler file.
