HPLIP

driver for hp2175

HPLIP does not list the HP2175All-in-One as a supported model - I find this very unusual, as it lists the 2140 and 2179. Is the driver for one of these units compatible for the 2175 - or is it factually unsupported (and why) would be my question(s).

I assume you are referring to the HP PSC 2175, which is supported by HPLIP. Regarding the 2140 and 2179 you refer to in your post - those are Deskjet sub-brabded products, and as you mention they are also supported by HPLIP. There is no DeskJet 2175. Since HPLIP supports nearly 1,300 HP printing & imaging products it is important to search for the sub-brand.
