Please be sure that the CD-ROM repositories are disabled and that you are using the Ubuntu Main servers, not the Ubuntu US Servers.

To do that look here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

Under the section: Managing Local Repositories -> Disable the CD-ROM Repository

and then re-run the installer.

Can you post the exact error you are getting?

To configure the printer run:

sudo hp-setup

if you continue to get an error run:

hp-check -t

and post the output.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

The printer doesn't seem to be detected by HPLIP. Please try restarting the printer, plugging it into a different usb port and run:

/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp

and post the output.

You should get pages and pages of data... can we try running it again? If it's not returning anything my first though is either a hardware or kernel problem..

At this point I think there is something wrong with your ubuntu install....if lsusb isn't reporting anything it means there might be a problem with the usb subsystem.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Aaron
