Can't get hplip to recognize my printer.

Asked by linuxuser63

I am using Mandriva 2008.1 and a HP DeskJet 9800. It is installed on CUPS and working. However the HP toolbox will not recognize it. I have installed the hplip 2.8.4. Currently the printer is installed under CUPS and has an address of usb://HP/Deskjetxxxxxx. I have tried reinstalling the printer via the toolbox and it persists in telling me that it is not installed. I have reinstalled it as an HPLIP printer under CUPS to give it a "hp://xxx" address but when I do that the printer will not work and the toolbox still does not recognize it.

I ran hp-check -t and it gave the following errors:
Checking for dependency: ppdev - Parallel port support kernel module....
error: NOT FOUND! This is a REQUIRED/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Please make sure that this dependency is installed before installing or running HPLIP.

Checking for dependency: xsane - Graphical scanner frontend for SANE...
warning: NOT FOUND! This is an OPTIONAL/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Some HPLIP functionality may not function properly.
(By the way xsane is installed and working)

Run:

hp-setup

to configure the printer to work with HPLIP.
