Photosmart-Network and no HP-Toolbox

Asked by Hartmut

I bought a Photosmart C7280, connected it with my router, used hp-uri and inserted the result in CUPS. So the Photosmart is printing via WLAN. Same with sane, but instead of hp:/net i used hpiao:/net ... For starting xsane the command "xsane hpaio:/net/Photosmart_C7200_series?ip=192.168.1.9", otherwise sane would not find the scanner. So: both items work.

My Problem: the HP-Toolbox is not working, neither any commandline-tool. Everything I get is

warning: No devices found on the 'net' bus. If this isn't the result you are expecting,
warning: check your network connections and make sure your internet
warning: firewall software is disabled.

The firewall is disabled ...

When do we get installation-instruktions on hplip.sf.net? All my Knowledge is from "Troubleshooting"!
Is there any web-frontend for this printer like the one of my router?

Please run

hp-check -t

and post the output.

Also you may want to run:

hp-setup -i <ip address of printer>

to be sure the printer is configured correctly.

Hartmut,

I can't say why it's working.

However the Photosmart C7200 series is support by HPLIP 2.7.10 and greater.

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/models/photosmart/photosmart_c7200_series.html

You'll need to upgrade to the latest hplip to get the correct support for this printer.

The printer is not configure using the hp:// backend:

----------------------
| INSTALLED PRINTERS |
----------------------

warning: No queues found.

This displays all the printers using the hp:// backend. So even though the printer may be working using the cups backend, it's not using the hp backend and therefore wont work with HPLIP.

Upgrading HPLIP to the latest hplip and using hp-setup to configure the printer should resolve this.
