How to continue printing after an out of paper

Asked by Ronald Derycke

Hello,
I have a HP LaserJet 1018 and have installed HPLIP 2.8.4 from source on SuSE 10.3.
Everything works well except when there is an out of paper condition. At that time the printing stops (normal) but I found no means to restart it. The printer does not have switches which could allow such a restart. There are no messages either.
Could you help me please. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ronald -

To restart the 1018 after an out of paper stop, open and close the lid. The unit should recover shortly after you close the lid, assuming you have added more paper to the input tray.

I have a HP Deskjet 5443 and have installed HPLIP 2.8.10.run on Ubuntu 8.10
I am receiving all the time a note that "the printer is out of paper".
I can't test the printer after I installed the HPLIP run.
I restarted the printer and the PC - but it did not helped - the paper is in the tray and not printing.
Could you help me please.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same type of printer: HP LaserJet 1018 and experience the same issue.
For me open/close the lid didn't help. What worked for me:
I opened HP Device Manager
Switched to Printer Control
Clicked "Stop Printer"
Clicked "Start "Printer"

OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
HPLIP driver: HPLIP-3.16.5
