Unable to Install Plugin

Asked by blrocks

I've attempted to install the required plugin for an HP Laserjet Pro MFP M225dw using HP Device Manager via HPLIP. I'm using HPLIP v3.15.11 installed via Debian Unstable on a Debian Unstable install.

I get to the point where I'm prompted for a root/superuser password. My username has superuser privileges, but the password doesn't work and I'm unable to change the username from root to my username.

I've also attempted installing the plugin using sudo hp-setup from the command line, but I encounter the same issue. Once everything errors out though, there's a message returned that hp-plugin cannot be run with root privileges.

I followed the tip in the related bug and the plug-in was installed. However, the resulting message from following the tip still showed a failure to install the plug-in, but I can now print and scan.
