printer scan button protocol

Asked by Samuel-sieb

Triggering a scan on Linux using the printer scan button has been pushed off for years. Can you please just tell us what the protocol is, so someone else can actually implement it?

Is there anyone from the hplip group still around? Has HP abandoned Linux?

Sorry for the delay in response. What is the printer model you are using.

I have a DeskJet 3050, but I would like to get the protocol for any others as well.

HP doesn't open source every protocol. We will work in this feature in near future.

I'm not asking for open source, I'm asking for an open protocol. And HP has been saying "near future" for 10 years or so.

However, since your response annoyed me so much, I decided to actually get around to looking at the protocol. It's a very simple xml back and forth with the printer. Why do you have to be so secretive about it? A scan handling application should be quite trivial.

Don't get annoyed. I will get back to you regarding your demand of open protocol.
