7580 Officejet pro not working with HPLIP in PCLOS repos

Asked by tchoklat

Distro - PCLinuxOS Gnome
Printer Officejet Pro 7580

I had my HP Officejet Pro 7500 running under PCLinuxOS with a Gnome desktop using the version of HPLIP from the sourceforge site. Now that I have reinstalled the full Gnome version I cannot get it to work. I have tried the HPLIP package in the PCLinuxOS repos and the current version at sourceforge. Same problem. The printer is recognised as another model. When I select the correct ppd file for the printer from the current version and try to print a document the HP Device Manager tells me that the active print job is stopped with a large yellow exclamation mark and the only option being to cancel the job. I am stuck. It wont even print a test page.

ADDIT: The Xsane scanner package works properly with the printer.

ADDIT 2: Using the repo version - "hplip-2.7.10-2pclos2007", Printerdrake in Control Centre identifies the printer as an Officejet 9100PS. HP-Setup through a terminal as root identifies the printer correctly as a Officejet Pro 7500 series, though the recommended PPDs are for a 1150C, K550, and K850 Officejet Pros. There is no PPD for a 7500 series in CUPS or Foomatic from the repo version. When I install the 1150C PPD colour printing is incorrect, though text is correct!!!! If I use the correct PPD from the newer version of HPLIP from sourceforge I get the problem as mentioned above

Any ideas would be great??

If possible please remove the pclos hplip and install the latest HPLIP from source. http://hplip.net

If this fixes the problem there may be a problem with the pclos package, in which case if you wanted you could report that to pclos. The distros make their own packages and often change things around so I can't be sure if something is broken or not. Although if you have a problem with our latest release I'll try and reproduce it and help get it going.

Thanks!

HI Aaron. This is what I have done and the outcome.

I removed the PCLOS HPLIP and downloaded and installed the latest sourceforge version. Some issues encountered;

1. Error reported that I was missing an optional dependency cups-ddk although through Synatpic I had installed cupsddk (note no hyphen)
2. During installation printer recognised as djet500 and LX djet500 and Officejet 9100 series.

I used the correct 7500 PPD and all works fine, although hp-check reports one error "Checking for dependency: cups-ddk - CUPS driver development kit...
warning: NOT FOUND! This is an OPTIONAL/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Some HPLIP functionality may not function properly".

.. Also, I placed the installation file in a folder in /home/HPLIP and ran it from there although all the files were placed in /home by the installer. Can I move them as they have messed up my /home

Tony,

The cups-ddk is optional, you can run fine without it. Also you can move the hplip source files in your /home/<user> directory to where you wish and/or delete them.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP!
