xsane negative scanning on HP 3210

Asked by Josef Sikora

My operating systems is OpenSuse 10.2 with the following RPMs:

hplip-1.6.10-25
hplip-hpijs-1.6.10-25
sane-1.0.18-34
xsane-0.991-32
sane-frontends-1.0.14-44

My printer is an HP 3210 All-in-One which has an overhead light in the lid of the scanning bed for negatives and slides. The overhead light does not come on when I scan a negative using xsane. I have tried selecting all of the negative types (standard negative, Agfa negative, etc) but none of them seem to force the light to come on. The result of a scan is a white picture with a few discolored lines. The scanner works properly under Windows.

Is this function supposed to work? How is it activated?

Thank you for any help.

I forgot to mention that I also selected the button "Negative: Invert
colors for scanning negatives" at the bottom of the XSane GUI. This
produced a very dark purple image and, again, the overhead light does
not turn on.

Josef,

HPLIP does not currently support negative scanning. Currently we aren't planning on adding this functionality for past products, we -may- be adding it for future products, however we are still working on the technical considerations for implementation.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Aaron
