Stuck on M127fn install: hp-plugin - Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid

Asked by Marina Whall

Brought home this lovely laser jet printer. Trying to install following the suggested route on HPLIP. (Also tried with CUPS) In both cases stuck when system requests hp-plugin. I've tried having the system install the file, and I've tried downloading the file myself and selecting it.

The first leads to an error message "file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered"

The second approach does not allow me to see the file I want to select, although I downloaded it and extracted it. All I can see are folders. Perhaps I am naming it incorrectly? I've tried leaving it as it is when extracted: /home/marina/Downloads/hp-plugin.1

I also get this: "Failed to install Plug-in.
Either you have chosen to skip the Plug-in installation or entered incorrect Password."

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Sourceforge site is down because of it we are not able to fetch the plugin.conf file.
We are not sure of which version of hplip is installed in your system.
You can directly download the required plugin files hplip-<VERSION>-plugin.run from here based on the hplip VERSION installed.
https://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/

Install it by running command 'sh hplip-<VERSION>-plugin.run' in terminal or you can choose the second option in "Device Manager- Plugin installer dialogue and browse to the file hplip-<VERSION>-plugin.run and select to install.

Let us know if this helped to solve the problem

Continuing to have trouble, unfortunately.
I had installed hplip-3.15.7, so I selected hplip-3.15.7-plugin.run
I installed using the command you gave and got "Done"
When I try to print a test page, however, it gets held up in the print queue.
I figured I should uninstall and start fresh, but when I try the HPLIP uninstall, using
rm -rf /usr/share/hplip
I first got many lines telling me I didn't have the necessary permissions, so I ran it again using sudo., but saw nothing in the terminal window.

Yes, I am new to Linux but am making a valiant effort to figure this out. But I have things I need to print, and am about to give up and try this on my ancient Windows machine...

Any further suggestions?

Hi Marina,

You could have reconfigured the queue using hp-setup command. Now that you completely deleted /usr/share/hplip folder you dont have to worry.

You can re-install hplip-3.15.7 package. If you have already downloaded hplip-3.15.7.run file you can run command 'sh hplip-3.15.7.run' in terminal to install the package (or) you can download the file from here http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html.

After completing the installation, run command 'hp-setup -r' to delete the any existing print queue for this printer and run command 'hp-setup' to create fresh print queue.

Let us know if you are facing any issue.

Thanks,
Goutam
