Ink Cartridge Replacement Problem on OfficeJet 5615

Hi there

I have a problem with my officejet 5600. After I replaced the 3Ink cartridge HPLIP still tells me that the cartridge is empty
and does not print (file remains in printer queue)

I am running KUbuntu 7.10, HPLIP 2.8.2 Device Manager SW 11.

When I boot WinXP everything works fine ?

Thank you for the quick reply.

Please find below the output of hp-info additional information.
The black cartridge I am using is a refilled one. The colour one is a new original HP - The colour cartridge that was empty and replaced replaced was a refilled one as well.

I just tried to replace the black cartridge wit a new original one the output of hp-info does not change - seems that the status is not updated correctly.
When I look at the status in WinXP all is fine and the printer works.

Sorry I'm not 100% clear on what ink cartridge is HP original and which is a 'refilled' cartridge.

The Tri-color cartridge is reporting:

 agent2-health-desc Very low

The problem with using non-HP supported "refilling" is that just because the cartridge may now technically be full of ink--simply refilling the ink does not change how the cartridge is reporting the ink level.

Using unsupported methods to refill the ink cartridges is not supported by HPLIP.

Hello Aaron,

At the moment there is a brand new HP original Tri-colour cartridge in the printer.

The old tri-colour cartridge was a remanufactured one. When I changed it to the new original one (for better results) HPLIP does not recognize that I changed the cartridge. - Still reports ink very low.

The black cartridge in at the moment is a remanufactured one as well (reporting in HPLIP to be low). When I replace this with with a brand new original one there again there is no change in the output of hp-stat or HPLIP.

is it possible that there is a communication issue between HPLIP and the printer - as it does not print at all running Linux.
Again all is well running Windows.

Running Windows the HP software recognized the new cartridge.

Any other tests I can run to verify the communication between the printer and the PC?

Gerhard,

I'm not sure how windows detects the ink levels. However for now lets, powering off the printer, removing all the ink, power on the printer, make sure the printer produces an error, power off the printer, put in the ink cartridges, then power on the printer again.

I'm thinking the printer is in an odd state, perhaps this will get it to report the correct information.

Let me know if this has any effect.

Hello Aaron,

That did do the trick - all is working fine now - thank you very much.

What I did:

- shut down the PC and printer
- swiched the printer on again.
- removed all the cartridges
- shut down the printer
- switched the printer on - with error MSG
- inserted the cartridges
- shut down the printer
- switched the printer back on
- booted the PC

--- all is working fine now (did not try it yet running windows).
