hp-setup -i 3.15.4 fails to install HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP correctly

Asked by Chris Hermansen

System: Ubuntu 15.04
HPLIP: hplip-3.15.4.run automatic install

I am using hplip 3.15.4 due to errors in the packaged version with Ubuntu 15.04 see Bug 1422004 on launchpad

The .run file appeared to install correctly (no errors reported), and correctly configured my HP 1102w.

When I attempted to configure (using hp-setup -i) my M1212nf-MFP, hp-setup failed to install the printer queue in CUPS:

Setting up device: hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP?ip=192.168.2.12

---------------------
| PRINT QUEUE SETUP |
---------------------

Please enter a name for this print queue (m=use model name:'HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP'*, q=quit) ?
Using queue name: HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP
Locating PPD file... Please wait.

Found PPD file: drv:///hp/hpcups.drv/hp-laserjet_professional_m1212nf_mfp.ppd
Description:

Note: The model number may vary slightly from the actual model number on the device.

Does this PPD file appear to be the correct one (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ?
Enter a location description for this printer (q=quit) ?Snoring room
Enter additonal information or notes for this printer (q=quit) ?

Adding print queue to CUPS:
Device URI: hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP?ip=192.168.2.12
Queue name: HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP
PPD file: drv:///hp/hpcups.drv/hp-laserjet_professional_m1212nf_mfp.ppd
Location: Snoring room
Information:
error: Printer queue setup failed. Error : successful-ok-ignored-or-substituted-attributes

Not sure where to go from here...

Further to that.

I restarted my system and tried once again to install with hp-setup. This time the install appears to have worked; no error messages, and I can print a test page.

Perhaps cups was left in an unusual state by previous operations... I don't know.

I note that even though I have installed 3.15.4 hp-setup, https://answers.launchpad.net/bugs/1422004 still appears when I log in.
