Need .ppd-File for HP Laserjet M401dne

Asked by Martin

Hi,

in the tarball from HP there is no File named like the Printer. Where do I find a .ppd File for the new Printers? I think the tarball is Kind of outdated?

Hi,

Please download the latest tarball from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html
To find the details of HP Laserjet M401dne, visit
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_400_m401dne.html

If the issue is not resolved, post the result of command 'hp-check -t' here.

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

Thank you for your fast reply. I entered hp-check -t and the result was:

-bash: hp-check: command not found

I just need the ppd - File. And I don't understand why I need to install the HP-Stuff...

Hi,

If you download the latest tarball from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html and extract the files you will get 'hp-laserjet_400_m401dne-ps.ppd.gz'. No need to install HP stuff.

Thanks and Regards

I downloaded that 13.15.2 but there is no File like the one you said. Could you download it and send me that File?

There are several Folders but in the ppd subdirectory of that Archive there is only hpcups and hpijs and there is no File named hp-laserjet_400 at all. Only some older Versions.

Only and addendum FYI:

In my extracted hplip-3.15.2 source tarball I have
prnt/ps/hp-laserjet_400_m401dne-ps.ppd.gz
that contains
--------------------------------------------------------
*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 hpps"
--------------------------------------------------------
which means this PPD as is cannot work without
the hpps filter that is also provided by HPLIP
so that to use this PPD as is one would have to
install HPLIP stuff.

With only the hpps filter alone it does not work
because hpps needs other stuff from HPLIP,
in particular the Python module cupsext, cf.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=918828
and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1423220

Regarding hpps and regular PostScript printers
see what I wrote at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1424539

I did not check if the HP LaserJet 400 M401dne
is actually a regular PostScript printer.
