Trouble downloading/installing HP officejet pro 8610 on Linux

Asked by artfulvag

I'm having difficulty with the installation of my new HP Officejet Pro 8610 on Linux

I'm running Linux Mint 11 and currently have an HPLIP version 3.11.1-2ubuntu installed. The version for my new Officejet Pro is 3.15.2

I found the download through http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/downloads.html and downloaded the new version with the Automatic Installer, but when I went to download the Digital Signature to verify the public key, there was none.

Is this because my Linux Mint 11 is too old? (The Automatic Installer is for Linux 13 and up).

Do I need do a Manual Installation HPLP Source Code Tarball? I am not at all proficient in these matters and am hoping for an easy way to do this.

Many thanks!

Hi,

LinuxMint 11 is Obsolete since October 2012 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Mint). If you are still able to install packages from Linux mint repository (using apt-get) then you can try manual installation instructions (of LinuxMint 13) from
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/linuxmint.html

If you are not able to install packages from Linux mint repository then HPLIP can not be installed in your system as its installation requires few third party softwares like libjpeg, libdbus etc to be installed.

Thanks,
Sanjay
