3-second pause between jobs
I'm using HPLIP 3.14.10 and I added a new printer to CUPS which is an HP LaserJet 400 M401dne. Two relevant drivers appear in CUPS:
- HP LaserJet 400 M401dne USB PHGFC47100 HPLIP (HP LaserJet 400 M401dne)
- HP LaserJet 400 M401dne (HP LaserJet 400 M401dne)
The first one is the default but it causes a 3-second pause in between printing jobs. The second one prints without the pause. Does anyone know why this happens with the first driver or how to fix it?
I'm switching to HP printers from Brother printers for the improved Linux support. I will go through a lot of these so I want to prevent this from tripping me up in the future.

Hi,
Can you provide us 'hp-check' output.
Also can you deleting the existing print queue for this printer in 'system-
Reconfigure the print queue using 'hp-setup' command from terminal.
Let us know if you are observing the 3 - sec pause between print jobs.

Goutam

I misspoke before. The difference between what works and what doesn't work is not the driver, it's the connection. This connection has a 3-second pause between print jobs:
hp:/usb/
This connection has no such pause:
usb://HP/
My computer is connected to the printer via USB and I'm sending jobs to the printer via lpr. If the paper tray runs out during printing, the remaining print jobs print without pausing even with the hp:/ connection once paper is replaced in the tray.
Clearing the print queue in the CUPS interface does not prevent the pauses. I set up the printer in CUPS and I can't run hp-setup because I am remote to the office running the printer:
# hp-setup
warning: No display found.
error: hp-setup requires GUI support (try running with --qt3). Also, try using interactive (-i) mode.
# hp-check

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine
if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built
HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and
run-time dependencies).
Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

I was able to install a new print queue with 'hp-setup -i'. Printing with that queue still has a 3-second pause between jobs with the hp:/ connection.
