Deskjet 1050 prints half-height random lines
Printer fails to print the upper half of some lines of text, usually about 1 in every 4-6 lines. Cleaning heads fails to correct this.

Thank you for hp-check output.
Do you see the same behaviour when you print hp testpage ?
Is it happening for only one document or all documents ?
Can you run command 'hp-clean -g' in terminal and provide its output.

I THINK that oneach ocasion that I've noticed this I've been printing from Libre Office . From a website it prints OK.
Selecting 'Scale to fit' makes no difference.
As I said in a previous post, the fonts now available to me in Libre Office Writer are not the same set as were available before I reinstalled Ubuntu 14.04 some two months ago.

In libreoffice you can find "Export to PDF" in File tab. Convert the doc to pdf.
I don't find any attachments. You cannot add attachment to a launchpad question.

Same result printing from .pdf, misses the top half of characters about
every 6-8 lines.

Hi Ray
Can you help us to capture the print .out file ? This would help us to verify the cause of the issue much more clearly.
Please follow the below steps:
Capturing out files:
1. Enable hp loglevel
command:
sudo sed -i 's/LogLevel warn/LogLevel debug\nhpLogLevel 15/' /etc/cups/
2. Restart cups service
command:
sudo service cups restart
3. Clear the cups log files
command:
su -c 'cat /dev/null > /var/log/
4. Print the document from LibreOffice writer and also .pdf file from evince application.
5. Capture the generated print out files and cups error_log file.
commands:
mkdir /tmp/hplip_log
su -c ' cp /var/spool/
su -c ' cp /var/log/
6. Compress the folder hplip_log
command:
tar -cvf /tmp/hplip_log.tar /tmp/hplip_log
Attach the file /tmp/hplip_log.tar to the link https:/

goutam

You need to set the root password.
Run command 'sudo passwd' in terminal and set the password for root.
Next run command 'su' and enter the password.

Hi Goutam,
Didn't realise that su needed to 'know' its own password! Had only ever
used either sudo or gksu before.
Did this:-

[sudo] password for ray:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

Password:

Please run command 'mkdir /tmp/hplip_tmp' to create directory hplip_tmp in /tmp.
Next run command:
su -c 'cp /var/spool/
su -c ' cp /var/log/
/tmp/hplip_log/ '
