Driver compatibility between wireless Photosmart 2710 and Asus Eee laptop with linux

Asked by Denzil Beard

I need to install a driver on my Linux ASUS Eee laptop to connect to my Photosmart all-in-one 2710. Is there an easy way to do this?

Photosmart connects to wireless network OK and to other Windows XP/Vista computers but cannot connect to new ASUS Eee.

Yes installing HPLIP on the EeePC is very possible. I've created a first draft of the steps here:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/manual/distros/eeepc.html

But please not it will change the EeePC, and there may be easier ways to do it. Xandros may be able to provide a package that will provide the hplip funtionality. In fact your printer has been support since HPLIP 0.9.5, so if Xandros provides the hplip package older than that (which I'd be surprised if they didn't.) then you should be good to go. However, I've only had a little time to test with the EeePC so I can't verify.

If you follow my steps above I'd like any feedback you have to improve it--if you should feel inclined.

Hope this helps!

Aaron
