Scan-to option on hp laserjet 2840

Asked by stillife

Hi all,

I recently got an HP LaserJet 2840 for the office and we've been trying to get it to "scan to" our ReadyNAS box. We've been successful at getting the printer to scan to a folder on our xp and vista PCs. But since the intelligence seems to be in the HP Toolbox software which is installed on the client computer, I'm not sure how that could be configured on ReadyNAS. I know it is possible to mount the network share on a pc and then scan to that share through an intermediary PC, but I would like to scan directly to the NAS.

We are wondering if HPLIP, once installed on our NAS system, might be able to take care of this? The ReadyNAS system runs a modified version of Debian, I think.

So I'm wondering if anyone has got any experience with this system and can suggest anything.

Thanks,
Ali

Ali,

We are hoping to provide this functionality in the future, however we do not currently support the button press automatic scanning from printer to pc in linux.

I wish I could give you a time frame for when we expect to support this, however at this time I am unable to give that to you.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your support of hplip!

Aaron

Could you possibly create a SAMBA share on Linux that you could scan to? I'm
not sure how to do this, but it seems like it should be possible...

@Aaron:
Thanks for your reply. What would this feature be called? I want to know so I understand when it becomes available in your future releases.

@ dwelch91:
Thanks for the suggestion. Well I already have a couple of shares available on our NAS. We are able to setup scanning to that share through an intermediary windows PC. I was just hoping that there would be a way of being able to scan directly to the NAS (running linux) without any itermediaries. But as Aaron has pointed out that feature will become available in the future.

Aaron,

Are you tired of waiting for HP to implement this? Look at http://rende.se.
