miss Printout mode 'High Quality ' and Resolution settings

Asked by efa

HPLIP miss Printout mode 'High Quality' settings in Printer Settings, General, Print Quality.
I can select only Draft (Color and Grayscale), Normal (Color and Grayscale) and High Resolution Photo (valid for Photo paper only).
The printout in Normal mode has a lot of visible dots, the same printer F380 can generate higher details with another (older) PC, that has 'High Quality' setting.
The option is missing in CUPS, HPLIP and in all applications when I go to Printer settings.

Also miss the selection of print Resolution that is present in the older PC (300 and 600 dpi at least).
My current PC has Ubuntu 12.04, the older one has Ubuntu 10.10

I had to open a bug against CUPS or HPLIP ?
thank you in advance

I had shots of Printer Settings panel on both PC, showing differences of options.
Where can I upload them?

Can you post the ourput of 'hp-check' command from both systems, ubuntu 12.04 and ubuntu 10.10 ?
You can attach the differences by going though this link https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/254601/+makebug. You will find a link to attach the attachments.

partially solved.
yesterday evening I found that the old PC has 'printer-driver-hpijs' and 'hpijs' packages, while my current PC has 'printer-driver-hpcups'.
I installed 'printer-driver-hpijs', created a new printer connected to the same hp:// usb port. With this new driver, I can see the Resolution and 'High Quality' settings.
But new printer won't print, remain always on hold also if its queue are on, accepting jobs and set to default printer.
So I removed both drivers, and reinstalled only 'hpijs', this evening will try and attach the differences.

What are the pourpose/differences/manteiners of those two drivers:
'printer-driver-hpijs'
'printer-driver-hpcups'
?

What is rationale for old distro installed hpijs, while new installed hpcups by default?
Should the better one chosed by default.

thanks for now

I made many tests, installed, removed, re-create printers with CUPS, HPLIP and so on.

When creating a printer in CUPS, I can choose as connection:
hp:/usb/Deskjet_F300_series?serial=CN71KGY1CM04KH
or
usb://HP/Deskjet%20F300%20series?serial=CN71KGY1CM04KH&interface=1
and, as driver:
hpijs
or
hpcups
so at the end I got 4 new printers with all the combinations: hp_ijs, hp_cups, usb_ijs and usb_cups

The two printers connected with hp: are seens also by HPLIP 3.14.6, so I can align heads and see inks level.
The two printers that use the ijs driver are the one that has more print settings, and got better print quality, in Normal mode too.

So best printer in my case is: HP_Deskjet_F380_hp_ijs
so I put this as default printer.
With this I can select High Quality printout and/or 300 or 600 dpi resolution, see inks level and align heads, AND got good quality printing photo in Normal mode on normal paper too.

hpcups driver generate photos with visible dots. The quality in Normal mode is better than Draft, but not at the level of Normal mode of 'ijs' driver.

Do you think that updating CUPS from distro version 1.5.3 to last 1.7.5 I can get better results with hpcups driver?

I will attached the log of 'hp-check' on my current PC, and different options list of ijs and cups driver.

The old PC has Ubuntu 10.04 and has installed hplip without GUI, no 'hp-check' command.
packages: installed: hplip, hpijs, no printer-driver-hpcups driver exist, maybe is the not installed: hplip-cups
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.10.2)
Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 9.0
CUPS 1.4.3
HP Deskjet f300 Series hpijs, 3.10.2 (color)

last thing:
I found a driver 'hpcups' v3.14.6 other than the v3.12.2, probably installed by HPLIP 3.14.6
The fewer options and low print quality I got are the same on both
