cannot setup

Asked by Rodrigo Santos

After installing Python2.7.5 in Ubuntu 10.04, HP Device Manager stopped working. I downloaded and installed hplip 3.14.3 and while trying to run hp-setup this happens:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/hp-setup", line 45, in <module>
    from base import device, utils, tui, models, module, services, os_utils
  File "/usr/share/hplip/base/device.py", line 43, in <module>
    import status
  File "/usr/share/hplip/base/status.py", line 59, in <module>
    import hpmudext
ImportError: No module named hpmudext

Help, I need to recover my printer and scanner!

Thanks

Hi,

Looks like HPLIP is not installed properly in your system. Reinstalling HPLIP again might fix the problem. As ubuntu 10.04 has already reached End of Life and hence HPLIP is not supported on this. However if you are able to set up synaptic package manager and if you can install packages then you can install HPLIP .

=> Download and install the latest HPLIP release from
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html (automatic installer) or
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html (Manual instructions)

=> Reconfigure print queue using below commands.
       => hp-setup -r (remove all print queues)
      => sudo hp-plugin (This will download right plugin)
       => hp-setup
=>Try printing and scanning now.

Can you help with this problem?
