HP device mgr cannot exit

Asked by greg79

Hello

I bought a laserjet 1018 yesterday and with ubuntu 7.10, only if i start the printer and then the pc, i could print. If I start the printer after ubuntu is loaded, the printer state is 'stopped'. Another way to get the printer in IDLE state is to unplug and then plug the usb cable.

So i installed HPLIP with hope to resolve this detection problem because i read that the version of HPLIP coming with the distro is old.

Installation was ok until HP Device is launched. The device could be detected and at the last page where you need to enter any printer information you wish to update/change, the NEXT button in the application is grayed. So I cannot complete the installation.

There are on the web plenty of tricks for hp laserjet 1018 but they are unclear so I hope with HPLIP I can finally get normal usage with my printer.

Thank you

This is probably because you already had the printer queue name (say for example hp_laserjet_1018) configured. If you add or change the queue name the finish button will become 'ungrayed' and then you can click finish to complete. I'll see if I can have the problem better described in the next release of hplip.

Hope this helps!
