HPLIS unable to find HP Laserjet 2035n on network

Asked by Gurjit Dhaliwall

I'm getting an issue where setting up our HP Laserjet 2035n printer on the network fails. HPLIS is not able to find the device.
I can telnet to the printer on port 515 it but cannot ping it.
I'm using an up to date version of HPLIS (3.14.4).
My operating system is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.10.

How does HPLIS try and find a device on a Linux network?
Does it need to get a successful ping back from the printer?
What ports does it check connectivity on?

Here's an extract from a recent hp-check run:

"warning: Printer is not HPLIP installed. Printers must use the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend for HP-Devices."

Thanks.
