HP Laserjet 3330 MFP hangs while running hp-setup

Asked by John R. Boutiette

Using HPLIP 3.14.4 , load driver and run hp-setup . have to unplug/plug print power to see printer again. Prints fine after that.
Try to scan using Xsane and hangs again.

I think I have found the problem and want to get this info out for others trying to get around this problem. This printer supports USB1.1. I had this plugged into a USB3.0 port( which is supposed to be downward compatible ) on the back of my machine. I then tried the Front panel ports which are USB2.0. Unplugged and replugged back in. Ran hp-setup and worked. Scanned with Xsane and gscan2ppf and both worked. Replugged USB cable back to USB3.0 port again and hung scanning. Verified failure.

Opened terminal and with Cable in USB3.0 ">lsusb"

I hooked up printer on an older machine that only has support for USB2.0 and it worked on all (4) ports. Two(2)of the ports were used by mouse/keyboard.

My suggestion would be to make sure you plug the printer into a USB Port 2.0 or get a dedicated usb2.0 card that only has this printer plugged into it. This has been happenning since I got the printer. It hangs also in Windows 7 also. reverified okay after plugging into front port USB.

This Printer supports USB1.0 1.5Mps protocol. Intermittent if 12Mps or above. Verified on 3 other machines.
