new Mint install - HP5550 prints red for black

I am trying to convert to Linux using MInt16. My HP5550 is connected with USB. It shows but prints what should be black as red. I updated the HP drivers with no difference. Any ideas on what to do next? Thanks. Old computer guy but new Linux guy.
