HPLIP Does Not Recognize my HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One

Asked by Keith W. Stolzenbach

Went to HP Support and was redirected to SourceForge and the HPLIP software. I attempted to download and run the software twice but it wouldn't recognize my HP Photosmart 2575. Then I discovered that Linux Mint comes with HPLIP and I installed several parts of that software in particular the gui, toolbox, data, etc. When I click on the HPLIP toolbox icon nothing happens. I see some HPLIP for faxing but since I don't use fax I ignored those. I also tried Xsane and it doesn't recognize the HP Photosmart 2575 either. I have the printer directly connected to the laptop with a USB cable and I have tried unplugging and replugging the USB cable, I have tried restarting the laptop and nothing seems to work.

Please follow the instructions mentioned in http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html.

As you said, printer is not getting detected. Is the printer gets listed, when you run in terminal 'lsusb'?

Please run 'hp-doctor' to solve issues once the printer is getting added.

I solved the problem by reinstalling HPLIP without the printer being attached via USB. Then after sometime I plugged in the USB cable and the printer was found immediately.
