Photosmart 5520 approximately cuts off the first and last cm of page. How can I correct this. My old photosmart 7820 had no such issue. Using latest driver Mint 15

Asked by Al H

I have upgraded my printer to Photosmart 5520. Problem with the top and bottom margin. The first and last 1.5 cm of the page text documents is not printed.
When printing a PDF it will print the whole document almost right to the very edge of the paper, when I choose 'shrink to printable area'. This option does not seem to be available in a text doucment using openoffice. So I know it can do it.
This printer is supposed to provide boarderless printing, so chopping off the top and bottom of a text document just makes no sense.
This is very frustrating. I have even installed the latest 3.14.1 to no avail.
I had no such problem with my old photosmart 7820. I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled including the HP software.
How can I fix this problem? Makes the printer unuseful.

Hi,

Try by setting the scale to fit option.
1) run system-config-printer command in terminal
--> select the printer and properties-->JobOptions-->"Scale to fit"

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

A more complete solution is to open the HP Device Manager Dialog and in "Print Settings -->General--> Media Size" Select the "Borderless" or "Small Margins" option of your paper size e.g. "A4 Small Margins 210x297mm" this will allow you to print your document at the original size without any scaling.

This option can also be selected using:
system-config-printer -->select the printer and properties-->Printer Options-->Media Size

or from the Print dialog call ed by the application you are printing from for example Document Viewer
File-->Print-->Page Setup--> Paper Size
