How to obtain binary plugin when openprinting.org is unavailable

Asked by johanpdx

Installed Ubuntu 13.10. Ran hp-setup to finish installing HP LaserJet M1132 MFP, as I had with previous versions of Linux. Installation stalls. Same with hp-plugin: unable to connect with HP's authorized server. Running sudo hp-plugin -i -g shows that program is attempting to access openprinting.org; retries after first failure, then simply hangs during second attempt. Same computer, same printer, latest hplip (3.13.9); nothing has changed except new Ubuntu.

PS: I did see this previous thread ... "[SOLVED] HPLIP Plug-in installation failed" ... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2178303 ... but nothing seemed to apply to my case.

1. Good news: openprinting.org is back, plugin installed successfully.
2. Grumpy: HP, why make this whole process so unnecessarily complicated?
