unable to scan with new HP Officejet 4620

My new HP Officejet 4620 will not scan to my new ASUS Windows 8 computer. It will print and copy but it won't scan. It states a computer connection is not detected. This is a home computer that is not on a network. The computer is connected via USB. Please assist in resolving this issue as we purchased this all in one for the sole purpose of scanning documents.
