Officejet 8600 pro, no device found (network) plus...

Asked by Henry Peters

Hi,

I have an HP 8600 pro plus printer, scanner, fax... I have it connected to both usb & ethernet connect, works fine, last time I tried on my Windows XP installation, but recently changed my Linux OS to Debian Wheezy v.7.1 (Mate desktop)... HPLIP worked good with my previous Linux OS (Debian Squeeze), but now, certain features do not seem to work (& or I am doing something incorrectly in setting this printer up(?) ): I can setup the usb printer, the fax printer, but not the Network printer (connected to a functioning ethernet router, along with my internet dsl connect)...

I was earlier looking over another problem/situation at the launch pad site, & found a suggestion that I try running 'hp-setup -g' which I did... & this is the out put from that:

:~$ hp-setup -g

Done.

The second problem I'm having is that I can not turn on the duplexing feature... even though other configurations seem to allow dou le sided options... (e.g., "two sided (long edge)").

I also just installed the latest HPLIP (& plugins)... didn't solve the problem/s.

Thanks for any help here.

When you run 'hp-setup', for device discovery screen, click on 'Show Advanced Option' and Choose Network Discovery method as SLP. Now you can discover your printer.

Hope this helps.
