Bloody 3.13.5 BREAKS everything!!!

Asked by Stefano Barale

Hi everybody,
I know you are busy doing GREAT work there, but I have a no-go issue.
When upgraded to 3.13.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 my HP Photosmart 5520 worked JUST SUPERFINE.
Now, after upgrading to 3.13.5 broke down horribly.
I can't print
I can't scan
I can't anything

simply because the hp-setup does NOT recognize the printer as wireless device anymore.
Using the USB is NOT an option, because after that I ALWAYS need the cable to make it work, losing the single most exciting feature of the printer/scanner/allinone thing.
I broke my brain trying to downgrade, but the only version available is 3.13.3, also NOT working.
Please, how do I get back to the FANTASTIC 3.13.4?!?!?!
TIA
Stefano

Dear Amarnath,
now I am quite confused. I also found the same link to 3.13.4 and downloaded and, in the first place, it didn't work.
Then, by MANUALLY adding the IP address, it was able to find the device and got back to normal operations.
In the meantime, thou, following the troubleshooting guide from HP I also tried to open ports 161, 162, 9100 on my ADSL modem/router, so I now don't know what fixed it: was it the downgrade to 3.13.4 or manually adding the IP to the device?

I don't know if it's worth a bug, since using the wifi net of my cellphone I was able to make it work, also.
So it looks pretty much like a network problem (some ADSL modem routers closing some key ports)...

Here's the result from the 2 commands:

$ hp-check

BLA BLA BLA (lost of lines)

No errors or warnings.

Done.

$ hp-wificonfig -g

Hi Stefano,

From above, I didn't find any issues. It might worked by using manual IP address during setup.

If you are not facing any issues now, mark it as solved.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

In fact the issue has been solved, but the problem is identifying the action that solved it.
It can be any of the following:

1. opening ports 161, 162, 9100
2. reinstalling (downgrading to) 3.13.4
3. manually adding the IP of the printer to the hp-setup program

I will then try to upgrade back to 3.13.5 and let you know.
