Can't print (deskjet 1000_J 110 on Kubuntu 13.04).

Asked by Giorgos Kostopoulos

Hi! :-)

I have a color inkjet HP Deskjet 1000).
My system is Kubuntu 13.04 x64 (with KDE 4.10.2).
My driver version is 3.13.3 15.0 (QT4), that came from the repositories.

I tried installing the latest hplip version, but the autoinstaller informed me that this Ubuntu version is not supported and then aborted.
So, I suppose this driver is the latest version I can install.

Note 1: The printer is operational. I checked it at Windows.
Note 2: Previous hplip version used to work in Kubuntu 12.10.

Now to the point:
I just upgraded my system 12.10 -> 13.04 and the new hplip version don't seems to work.
It can see the printer but when I'm trying to print brings me a message that priinting started and the that the printing ended, but nothing actually happening.

Any hints? :-)
TIA!!!

Here is the test output:

Hi Giorgos,

I have the same problem.

After upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04 hplip-gui was deleted.
Printer works! Today I want to clean cartridge, so I need hplip-gui.
I installed from software-center hplip-gui 3.13.3-1 and printer never prints.
It informs me to update to hplip-3.13.4. But after download hplip-3.13.4.run it tells me "not available for ubuntu 13.04".
I called the hp hotline. AAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Timekiller.

I uninstalled hplip-gui 3.13.3-1, restart computer and printer works.

Nice Printing, Tobias

THANKS Tobias for your help!!! :-)

Indeed hplip-gui seems to be problematic. It's on the repositories, but synaptic can't see it any more.
Anyway, I don't think it's necessary since you can access cups control panel through the browser (http://localhost:631/), so I uninstalled it.

This didn't solved the problem and I'm still receiving the error "warning: HPLIP-Installation: Auto installation is not supported for ubuntu distro 13.04 version".
Manual installation don't seems to supported either.

According to hplip, 13.04 is not supported at all!!!
Really strange!
I hope hplip will support 13.04 at future versions.

Hi Giorgos,

Ubuntu 13.04 will be supported in HPLIP-3.13.5 version,
however you can install HPLIP-3.13.4 package on Ubuntu 13.04 by ignoring the Warning message.

Please follow the below steps:-
download HPLIP-3.13.4.run from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html

1) run hplip-3.13.4.run in terminal
$ sh hplip-3.13.4.run
--> ignore the "Auto Installation is not supprted for Ubutnu-13.04, Howevertrying to install using Ubuntu-12.10 version packages" and Press "y"
--> follow steps.

2) setup the device using "hp-setup" command.

If you find any issue, please post the installation output and "hp-check" command output here.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

Turboprint could be a way. http://www.turboprint.info/
I have used it with an old canon printer and it is better than all you can find in the repos. But I don't know if it works with Deskjet 1000. It is not free, but you can test it free before buying.

1) Nope! Turboprint doesn't support this model.

2) PPD didn't worked. Maybe I'm wrong, but from my experience, in order to work PPD files has to be created loaclly.

So you can look at your installed packages if something missing.

- A way could be to delete all your printer configuration. Reboot (don't know if necessary). Then open printer config an then add a new printer.

- Ask Turboprint if they could add Deskjet 1000 to the supported printers.

- PPD: I thought there was a import function but I don't remember where.

Nice Testing

THANKS! :-)

1) Somehow synaptic doesn't anymore finds hplip from repositories. Maybe it's a synaptic bug.

2) I already uninstalled, deleted, rebooted etc. Nothing happens! :-)

3) Turboprint maybe an excellent product but I'm not ready to participate in a closed source product. No offence! :-)

4) I don't know either. :-)

Hi,

Can you send the logs to analyse the issue

1) run hp-logcapture command with root permissions.
$ sudo hp-logcapture

--> it generates the troubleshoot logs, attach logs by creating Bug report in this launchpad

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

I have installed a fresh Xubuntu 13.04 and there is no problem with the printer. Plug and play.

You can test the printer without your PC.

Hold the button - open and close 4 times the printer - unhand the button.

Now the printer should print a little testpage.
