Scientific Linux 6.x (RHEL) and a Deskjet 3510

Asked by Gerry Creager

I'm trying to get hplip the HP Device Manager to find and recognize my new 3510. I've installed hplip 3.12 (RHEL, backported, most likely) and the device manager comes up.

dmesg tells me:
usb 2-1.4.3: new high speed USB device number 8 using ehci_hcd
usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device found, idVendor=03f0, idProduct=ad11
usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 2-1.4.3: Product: Deskjet 3510 series
usb 2-1.4.3: Manufacturer: HP
usb 2-1.4.3: SerialNumber: CN29F1119905R7
usb 2-1.4.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 8 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x03F0 pid 0xAD11
usb 2-1.4.3: selecting invalid altsetting 1

And the Device Manager finds nothing. Looking for suggestions.

Thanks, gerry

Hi Gerry,

Please let us know which version of HPLIP has been installed?
This Deskjet 3510 is supported in hplip-3.12.9, so use hplip-3.12.9 or later version.

Preferable to install latest hplip-3.13.3 http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/redhatenterprise.html .

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

I'll have to check tonight, when I get home. I still can't get the toolbox
to work, but for reasons not completely clear, and without any further
intervention on my part, the printer started working about an hour later.
No! Really! I asked the question, and at that time, I got no response from
the system to any sort of print commands, and an hour or so later, I had a
print icon on the tool bar. I'm just not used to Linux doing that to me!

More troubleshooting tonight.
