hplip support for Debian 7.0

Asked by simon

I installed hplip 3.12.6-3.1 with plugins and setuped the printer Laserjet Pro P1106,it didn't work because Debian 7.0 is not among the Linux Distributions supported.I wonder if the coming versions will support debian 7.0.Thanks!

Hello Simon,

Debian 7.0 will be supported in future releases of HPLIP, however you can try to install HPLIP Latest release in Debian 7.0 using manual instructions and check if everything works fine.

=> Download and install the latest HPLIP release from
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html (Use manual installations of Debian 6.x)

=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands in the terminal mentioned below.
       => system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
      => su -c "hp-plugin"
             or
      => sudo hp-plugin (This will download right plugin)
       => hp-setup (It should not be run in a root mode. This command is adding print queue, make sure you select ppd name having "-ps" or "hpcups" substring)
=>Try printing/Scanning now.

Thank you for your suggestion.I reinstalled hplip 3.14.3 and plugin following the instructions.Now I keep getting errors:error: Plug-ins need to be installed…Why the plugin successfully installed can't be detected?
PS:I can print with hplip in ubuntu 12.10 in virtualbox,so what's the key difference between it and Debian 7.0?

Hi Simon,

Can you please provide following information to analyse further.

$ ls -la /var/lib/hp

$ hp-diagnose_plugin -g

--> P.S: /var/lib/hp folder needs to have 755 permission (owner-group root), if not, change /var/lib/hp folder permissions to 755.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

Thank you very much,Amarnath!I changed the permission of /var/lib/hp folder to 755,it works!
P.S:Once a while,I also doubted it might be the problem,however,I tried another way:logged in as root,then print,failed.
