HPLIP upgrade fails

Asked by Jan Greeff

HPLIP keeps on offering to upgrade to 3.13.2 but when I try to activate the upgrade nothing happens.

If I try from the terminal, I get these outputs:

1. Some HPLIP applications are running. Press 'y' to close applications or press 'n' to quit upgrade(y=yes*, n=no):

Then when I press 'Y' I get:

2. error: Failed to close either HP-Toolbox/HP-Systray. Manually close and run hp-upgrade again.

That's as far as I get.

Hi Jan,

If hp-upgrade failed to close the systray, Please close hp-systray manually (by right clicking on hp-systray icon and press Quit) and run hp-upgrade in terminal

$ hp-upgrade

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

Amarnath, thanks for the belated reply. By this time, almost three weeks later, I have sorted the problem out via a fresh install of my OS and HPlip and I have lost confidence in asking for answers on this forum.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Jan Greeff for more information if necessary.
