Can't get hp-set to recognize the USB on my OfficePro 8600 printer

I have a brand new OfficePro 8600. I loaded the latest version of hplip 3.12.11. The printer is on the wireless network and is recognized. When I run hp-set up click on wireless network it asks me to connect the USB connection. But it never recognizes it.

If I connect the USB on the front directly to my computer and use hp-setp it still cannot see the USB connection.

I am running LinuxMint 14. I can add the printer and print a test page using the wireless connection. But there is no recognition of the scanner!

I have used an HP6500 wireless on this same system with no problems. The only difference is I reinstalled hplip using the latest version. Although I have tried the hplip supplied with this distro and get the same results.

I can use the "Printer" utility to "ADD PRINTER" and it will add the wireless 8600. So how do I get the hp-setup utility to work so I can use the scanner???? The following is the report from 'hp-check -t'.

Hi Al,

Please try following commands.

--> setup printer using hp-setup (from above log, looks like printer IP address is 192.168.1.9, change accordingly if it is different)

$ hp-setup -g 192.168.1.9

--> Try print and scan, if it fails to perform, provide us following logs.

$ hp-setup -g 192.168.1.9
$ hp-print -g
$ hp-scan -g
