hplip installer: user@host:~$: command not found

PROBLEM: When starting the installer from the command line the first entry is: user@host:~$: when this is typed into the terminal I get a response back that this command is not found

1. Your Linux Distribution and version.
Linux Mint 9
2. Your printer make/model.
HP Deskjet 3050A
3. If possible, run 'hp-check -t' and post the output.
hp-check-t
This program is not installed
4. A detailed explanation of your problem.
See above: PROBLEM
5. Steps to recreate the problem.
The problem recreates itself each time I try to run the installer.

Hi,

This error occurs, if printer drivers are installed in the system. Please install HPLIP-3.12.11 drivers from @http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html
