hplip installed, Photosmart 5520 all in one prints but no scan

I have recently purchased a HP Photosmart 5520 all-in-one printer. Printer set up has been fine, but the scanner is problematic. I am running the 64 bit version of Linux Mint 13, which I understand should be supported by hplip, I have downloaded and installed the latest version of hplip (3.12.11)

Having Re-installed hplip with the auto flag set and choosing to remove and install the Scanner still fails to work.

Using HP Device Manager to try and scan get error message as follows - Failed to open device 'hpaio:/usb/Photosmart_5520_series?serial=CN27L161L505ST':Operation not supported

Test Page Prints OK.

Added User to scanner group

hp-check -t doesn't find the scanner, no errors appear at the end

sane-find-scanner gives - found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [HP], product=0xb111 [Photosmart 5520 series]) at libusb:001:005

scanimage -L gives - No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

contents of etc/saned/dll.conf shows hpaio at the end of the list

Simple scan doen't find the scanner

Xsane finds no devices

Please can you explain what I have missed!
