hp-setup: queue setup failed

Asked by Bryan Green

I have a parallel port HP DeskJet 960c, and it is all configured and working.
However, hp-setup (from the command line) gets an error at the end, and the graphical tool reports that it fails to see the device. I'd like to be able to use the graphical tool.

Here is the hp-setup output:

Please run

tail -f /var/log/messages

and then re-run setup again and post anything in the /var/log/messages

Also lets put cups into debug mode and check the log as you are configuring the printer and please post that as well.

Info how how to do that here:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/troubleshooting/printing.html

(issue 2)

Thanks!

Okay, I did as you suggested, and for some reason the hp-setup command
completed successfully this time. Go figure.
I can't imagine whats different other than debug being turned on. Must be
the uncertainty principle in action.

I also get "Printer queue setup failed, Please restart CUPS and try again" setting up my USB hp photo smart P1000.

I also wanted to turn on the CUPS debug mode, but that link doesn't seem to work for me :(
