fatal error: :hplip-install

Asked by klmaustin

I'm trying to install hplip on a Fedora 3 OS system. I took the automatic install options. At the end I get this message in red:

fatal error: :hplip-install

I tried the custom install, using a simple, single function configuration, and I got the same error.

For grins, I logged in as root ("su root") and typed "make install". It seemed to not complain. I don't know if it is installed though.

My printer is a new Photosmart C7280. It works just fine over wireless from Windows XP. I can acess the Web interface (192.168.200.6) from the Linux box web browser. I just want to print simple one-way documents (PDFs, etc.) from Linux. I had a Deskjet 960c printer that was network-connected via a simple Hawking parallel-to-ethernet converter attached to it. But the printer died and I'm trying to use wireless now with this nice new printer.

1. How can make Linux aware of this wireless-network-connected C7280?
2. How can I know if hplip or hpijs is installed?
3. How can I launch or start these applications above?

Any other general suggestions?

Thanks.

The automatic installer -should- work with Fedora Core 3, however it hasn't been tested in a long while. You'll probably be better off doing the manual installer. However keep in mind that you may need to use yum to find the correct package name if the names have changed.

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/manual/distros/fedora_core.html

Even if hplip is installed you'll need at least hplip version 2.7.9 for your printer to work with hplip.

Hope this helps.
