HP LJ 1220 connected via HP Jetdirect 170X doesn't scan

Asked by CIJOML

I can print without any problem, also I can find scanner:

cijoml@notas:~$ scanimage -L
device `hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_1220?ip=192.168.1.100' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_LaserJet_1220 all-in-one

but xsane reports errors during I/O

Using:

cijoml@notas:~$ xsane hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_1220?ip=192.168.1.100

Any possibility to get this scanner printer work? hp-toolbox reports also possibility to scan, but xsane reports same error. I think it launches same command.

Thanks a lot for help

Michal

Can you run:

tail -f /var/log/messages

and in a different terminal shell run

scanimage -p -v -d hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_1220?ip=192.168.1.100 > fotkaA4.pnm

Thanks!

In my case (Debian testing) messages are clean, but probably what you want I found in syslog:

Jan 3 08:20:13 notas scanimage: io/hpmud/pml.c 345: SetPml failed ret=12
Jan 3 08:20:13 notas scanimage: io/hpmud/hpmud.c 315: device_cleanup: device uri=hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_1220?ip=192.168.1.100
Jan 3 08:20:13 notas scanimage: io/hpmud/hpmud.c 327: device_cleanup: close device dd=1...
Jan 3 08:20:13 notas scanimage: io/hpmud/hpmud.c 329: device_cleanup: done closing device dd=1

With this class of laserjet we recommend scanning over usb. If you connect the printer via usb are you able to scan? Also it appears that this Jetdirect device may not support scanning. Are you able to scan using windows via this jetdirect device?

Thanks!

Hi there,

This printserver is fully compatible with HP LJ 1200 - also scanning is supported.

YES with W2000 it works both net/usb scanning, with hplip and USB connection scanning also work.
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/product_pdfs/28830.pdf

This datasheet also mention scan compatibility with HP LJ 1220

I really need scan possibility through net...

We don't currently have a Jetdirect 170X to test on..the parallel is known to be iffy on linux. Is it possible to get a usb jetdirect device?

Sorry this doesn't help a lot..

I am ready provide you with photos of JD 170X's inside and also give you access to the QEMU linux machine to test on it...

BTW bug is at least that if scanning is not supported, scanimage -L reports scan possibility - this should be fixed to not confuse users.

I've been able to aquire a Jetdirect 300X and tested an OfficeJet G85 and LaserJet 3380 over the parallel with the Jetdirect and both printing and scanning worked correctly. However I don't have access to a LaserJet 1222 to verify that it works with that device. I'm going to do some more checking and see if I can locate one.

Sorry for the delay.

We haven't been able to acquire a LaserJet 1220 or a Jetdirect 170x to be able to test this configuration. Although it seems it should work, apparently there might be some problem. Although we strive to support as many hardware combinations as possible in the end because of the age of some devices and without being able to test the combinations all directly, sometimes some combinations will produce problems that we can't compensate for. There could be any number of variables in this situation causing a problem.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Aaron
