Tops and bottoms of pages cut off

Asked by Jordy Dickinson

The printer is an HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z.
My distro is Ubuntu 12.04, 64-bit.
My hplip version is 3.12.2-1ubuntu3.

When I print a test page, it prints fine, and the black outline is visible, albeit with a large margin on the top and bottom of the page.

When I print a pdf, unless I select "Scale to fit" in the Printer Properties dialog, the top and bottom of the page will be cut off. If I select "Shrink to printable area" or "Fit to printable area" in the PDF viewer's Page Handling tab of the Print dialog, the top and bottom will still be cut off, although to a lesser extent, as the page is indeed shrunk, just not enough.

If I print from my browser (Firefox), the tops and bottoms of the page are also cut off. There is no shrink or fit to printable area option in Firefox's print dialog.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting the issue in HPLIP. To help us understand and analyze the issue please follow following things.
=> Download and install the latest HPLIP release from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html (automatic) or http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html (manual, if automatic does not work)

=> run "hp-check --fix" command in the terminal if manual installation is done

=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands in the terminal mentioned below.
=> system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
=> su -c "hp-plugin" (This will download right plugin)
=> hp-setup (It should not be run in a root mode. This command is adding print queue, make sure you select ppd name having "-ps" or "hpcups" substring)
=>Try printing now.

If problem does not get solved then please run following command to capture the logs and send the logs.

$su -c "hp-logcapture"

**Please use "Create a bug report" to attach the logs as "Ask a Question" does not provide the file attachment option

There was no ppd file matching my printer which had "-ps" or "hpcups" in the filename. However, I stuck with the default option "<name-of-my-printer-model>.ppd" and tried printing and the document printed perfectly, with no shrinking or fitting to printable area necessary.

I now have a separate problem. I cannot print two-sided despite selecting the "Duplexer installed" in the "Installable Options" section of the "Printer Properties" dialog. The only option in my PDF viewers print dialog is "One Sided."

Should I ask a new question for this?
